Jonathan Griffin

Jonathan Griffin is CEO of Amalgamated Holdings Wilkinson Limited (AHWL), the family office for the Wilkinson family. With over 35 years of senior leadership and finance experience, Jonathan is a seasoned adviser and Board director to entrepreneurial families and their businesses.

Jonathan has advised the Wilkinson family for over 25 years and was instrumental in establishing AHWL in 2017. Jonathan’s primary role is setting and implementing the long-term investment strategy set in agreement with the family, principally across venture capital and property.

Since then, Jonathan has overseen investments in over 40 early-stage British businesses across various sectors, from healthcare to technology. Some of the investments are overseen from origination and due diligence to term sheet negotiation and eventually exit. With these, Jonathan sometimes also provides long-term, collaborative support which may include working with or joining their Boards.

Many of the Wilkinson Future investments are sourced by The British Design Fund (BDF), and Jonathan is a member of their Investment Committee. AHWL, via Wilkinson Future, has been a long-term investor in the BDF.

Jonathan started his professional life at Grant Thornton UK LLP, spending 25 years in their tax team, including the last 14 as an Equity Partner. During that time, he held various senior leadership roles including National Head of Private Clients, Chair of Financial Planning and Head of Tax for Yorkshire.

Jonathan left Grant Thornton in 2012 to set up his own independent firm advising multiple UK family businesses and holding several senior Board-level positions. His clients have included Tanglewood Care Homes, the largest private care home group in Lincolnshire, and WS Yeates Limited, an investment company with a £32 million investment portfolio.

Outside of work, Jonathan sits on the Board of Trustees for Leicestershire Scouting as its Treasurer and is a rugby fan supporting Nottingham and Wales. Jonathan holds a degree in Economics and qualified as a Chartered Tax Adviser, but is now a lapsed practitioner. A surprising fact about him is that he attends the Download Rock Festival each year.
